Help please, what engine do i have

Post

Hello

Wondering in any one can help me with identifying my engine and cylinder head

I bought a MK1 campaign and i don't think the engine is original,

the number on the engine is EV074976*

the number on the bottom of the engine is 026 103 021

the number on the head is 026 103 373 H

am i right in understanding this engine is from a early MK2, if so does the cylinder head and block match up to each other? i just get the feeling the engine was thrown together and sold with the car to make it look more complete, the engine was never working when i bought it and most of the parts for the car are missing

I have had the body work and paint done over last year so its time to sort the engine out  cylinder head.jpg engine block.jpg engine code.jpg

thanks for your time

thanks very much

EV is the K-Jet 1.8 fitted to MK2 Golf/Jetta GTis from '84-@'88 when Digipants electronics replaced the the analogue K-Jet and it became PB(?)

Digipants? I have heard it called many a thing but Digipants….. DIgiFarts…was more common…..especially when it don't work.

:)

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Is it pretty straight forward to fit

would  you know (apartt from a original DX engine )what would it better to fit the 8v or 16v engine?

Never done the swap but its essentially the same block with different inlet and exhaust fanimolds. Think the head may be slightly different with 'air-shroud' injectors. Like later DXs in Cabrios it had extra startup/warmup gubbins and electrical connectors were later design water proof ones.

Would think must people use basic block to replace a knackered DX but keep all the ancillary manifolds, injection system and poss engine mounts etc.

Depends what you are trying to do. if for more power the  standard route these days seems to be a 20v turbo. If to keep it looking basically the same the EV would be fine

Thanks that's great

sounds straight forward enough,

I'm not after more power i prefer it to be as standard as possible, I have the EV engine and box so i am just wondering if i overhaul it or buy a dx and overhaul that.

If the EV is not to much trouble to fit and its still considered a good choice then i will stick with it. I need to buy everything mechanical apart from the engine anyway so i am trying to weigh up the options

thanks for all your help :thumbs::thumbs:
