What size pistons??

Hi,
I have an 85 cabby 1.8 GTi and Im looking into boring the engine to 1900cc. Does anyone know what spec pistons to use  :dontknow:  as the company doing the boring has asked me to supply them.

Cheers

I don't know the spec but the standard 1.8 (1781cc) engine has a bore of 81.0mm and stroke of 86.4mm.

So 83.5mm pistons would give you 1892cc
84mm pistons –> 1915cc

But it would depend on the actual piston used, so you might be limited by availability.

I looked at going this route in the past mate,

I can't remember the exact dia so i wont guess and give you duff info but i do know i was looking at spending around ?375 on pistons at the time!!
(TSR i think it was)

Have heard great reports from guys running 1900cc but for the price it was much better to go the 2.0ltr short block (entire engine for ?100) Thats what i did as it was a no brainer as well as adding the ?80 to to bore my block.

Don't know if the pistons are still that price but good luck anyway.

Cheers  Domma……….

82.5 pistons would give you about 1849cc. these are 2.0 pistons so should be cheaper to get hold of. ii would suggest no more than 83mm (1870cc) 83.5 i think is maybe pushing it a little bit.? anything over 83.5 and the chamber wall are getting dangourously thin.
