What seats fit MK1's

Hi All

I'd like to find some seats to replace my wrecked ones.

Its a 1300 1983 driver.

I'm pretty sure that scirocco seats will just drop in as will any other MK1 ones. But what about MK 2, 3, 4's do they fit if not can they easily be made to.

Any help and advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Duncan

Scirocco seat sit very low down - try before you buy, you might not like it!

Any seats from a Mk1 or Mk2 golf or scirocco car will fit. I believe Corrado ones go straight in too.

Mk3's have wider subframes and will go in if you cut and re-weld the rear legs.
Mk4's - not a clue sorry! Probably a nightmare though!

Easy fix though - Just swap the handles onto the opposite seats…

Rocco seats also need the seat slider twaeking as its on the opposite side to the MK1 mechanism. Basically take it off and reweld it on the right side.

Going with the later stuff where the subframes need widening.... Seat Ibiza Cupra seats are a nice addition, half leather and it doesnt cost a fortune to get the inserts re-trimmed if they are not to your taste already.

I thought that some scirroco seats where height adjustable anyway?

seats

I bought a wrecked 1990 Corrado, put the seats in my '84, gave one of the old ones to a friend with a '78 and another to a friend with a '92 Jetta (Bora?).  The Scirocco and Corrado seats have height adjust, with full height being the same as the stock A1, and lowering a couple of inches from there.

Bump this to the top. So it would appear that Corrado Front Seats are a straight fit into a MK I

Depends on what type of seat you want, regular Golf seats no bolsters, or Sport seats (with bolsters).

In the Archive section I have a how to remove the seat covers and repair the bolsters, as the new bolster and pads are more than the worth of the car… :)

www.cabby-info.com has pictures of all the interiors of Cabby's over the years…  I personally loved the ones in my 81 Golf Diesel, no side bolsters, and they wore like iron, and still looked great after 20 years…

Now On a side note, I did tint the rear door glass and hatch so there was no fading on the rears at all.

Hi Joel,

I've just got a donor mk1 TT, how did you get the seats to fit? Front and rear? Also can you wire the heated seat up???

I've mk2 golf seat in my Caddy, they fit but the adjuster (so you can move it back and forwards) was on the wrong side. I had to move that across as it failed the MoT as a result of the drivers' seat not being adjustable…

I'm
Going to reopen this thread as starting a new one isn't great!

I want a set of seats for my car and I need your wisdoms please.

The seats HAVE to be….
1)VAG group
2)fully adjustable (electric would be nice)
  1. heated.
  2. The rear bench fitting without too much modification
  3. an armrest in the rear.

Not fussed if we chop and change the front and back as it's all getting re trimmed

Thanks in advance

Mate I ended up putting mk5 edition 30 seats in my mk1
Just had to build a support frame behind my rear seat no trimming needed, front seats were pretty easy too as welded the mk5 rails onto Mk1 body so can be changed back if ever needed, all in all the seats look class with the Mk1 tartan and leather feel whilst the luxuries of modern safety and comfort

The Cabriolet uses a different rear seat frame.  It is very hard to get a rear seat from another style to fit directly without modification.

That isn't to say it can't be done but I have seen some that looked squashed and whoopsided if attention to detail isn't observed, that is centering the new seat bottom and back and trimming the edges to properly look even.

Mk3 colour concept recaro fit with the leg adjusted and I swapped rear bench foam and leather on to my 3dr frame with a bit of tweaking.
