Hot Mk1 G60
My much loved g60 has been in the garage for a while as she was overheating. I really want to get her out again this year but need to get better reliablity. Basically, when in traffic she heats up real quickly, even with fan running constantly and oil temp gets up to 120+.
I was looking at putting an external (mocal?) oil cooler on, any other suggestions on how to get her running cooler.
Currently running with cone filter, original rad, Rallye intercooler if that helps.
cheers

defo fit an oil cooler.
Fit a schrink baffled alu sump as this increases the oil capacity by about a litre I think.
Slim line fan with temp control so you can control when the fan comes on ie rplaces your rad temp sensor is another step dude.
Could also try and fit a larger rad ie more coolant.

Rallye IC will only go in one place in a MK1 thats infront of the radiator and behind the grill and will not affect cooling what so ever.paul_c said
Where is the intercooler mounted?
Could be quite tight trying to get an external oil cooler in the front of a mk1 especially running the rallye IC you might be able to squeeze a long thin one across the bottom but getting it into the airflow could be difficult.

Obviously if its related to the conversion, and you add the air-oil cooler, then its best placed to the side, instead of in front of, the radiator; or otherwise sited optimally.

With the standard vw coolant oil to coolant cooler then the sandwhich plate for mocal oil fitted plus the oil filter all fitted, it gets a bit tight for space near the front slam panel

My temp gauge never goes over half way though and i'm running a mk2 polo rad which is tiny,I also use a low temp fan switch and a low temp thermostat.
My oil temp would go right up to around 140 which isn't good so had to fit an oil cooler which sorts the problem out. Also make sure you use the correct oil this helps alot.
As andy as said it's quite tight to get an oil cooler in there but can be done.

This is quite common on G60 conversions if your not running an oil cooler the standard heat exchange on the oil filter housing is a complete waste of time.

I am in Lincoln also, I don't want to impose, but wondered if if I could contact you direct / ask you to have a look and point me in the right direction with your knowledge on g60's being so good?

I'm struggling to fit a mocal 13 row oil cooler with my current rad I/c setup on my g60. Basically the I/c is from a sprinter and the rad is a top fill (mk1 golf). Has anyone with the same setup fitted a mocal cooler if so where?
Cheers
