fuel pump issues? intercooler g40 conversion?
i have got a 1978 mk1 3dr campaign model which i have totally stripped.
I am in the middle of dropping a polo g40 engine in it but i have a few problems i need advice on.
The g40 engine i am putting in the golf in an injection engine, i salvaged the enigne from a wrote of car but could not get the fuel pump. As the crappy original 1.1ltr is single carb i need a new fuel pump. I have come across a mk1 gti fuel pump, will this be alright to run with the g40 engine as i am tuning the engine a little or will i need a g40 pump.
Also with this conversion the g40 intercooler cannot be used as it sits right behind the front crossmember. does anyone know of of a suitable replacement that could possibly sit next to the radiator, a vag intercooler would be preferable.
cheers john

For the intercooler, it depends how much you want to spend, I've seen a nice Rad, intercooler and oil cooler all in 1 peice for about ?650 but if not the merc sprinter van intercooler is used alot.

PS: Don't forget that the word Campaign gets mentioned a lot with Mk1 Golfs, but only applies to '84 (some and late '83) GTI models…

I will have to think about the rad/intercooler combo as i cannot stretch to 650 quid on such an item.
i will definately have a look around for a merc sprinter unit.
thanks for the help.

what did you do about the driveshafts? i have put the g430 inner cv joints on the golf shafts and kept the golf outer cv's. this is to keep the right track width.
