yep, there's a couple on here that are doing/have done this conversion

no idea what cost is involved… believe the plug'n'play wiring loom/harness was ?800-?1000 on it's own when it was featured in a PVW about a year ago IIRC

If you are considering paying someone to do, start writing a cheque for a four figure sum starting with a 4!

?4K+ seems to be the going rate.
If you can find the right engine - to get every thing you need you will be looking at at least ?1500, then the headache of itting it yourself.

I had a detailed discussion with someone very much in the know on this and he reckoned about ?2800 for the bits you need and he would fit it for about ?400 - half the fitting price on a late MK2 as apparently its "easy" ?!?!?!?!?!

erm…thats a bargain.

Cheapest I've heard of someone paying is a mate of mine for ?4.5 but that was for a new company that needed some publicity.

Its the wiring thats a hassle, ?400 is only a few days labour at garage hourly rates, so I assume thats good mates rates?  Hes done it before then?

The www.qpeng.com website is really good, giving lots of info on the conversion, including the parts you need, parts you don't, what to swap between the engines, etc. Their solution is to use an aftermarket (although OEM quality) ECU which, avoids a lot of the hassles with the integration of the dash, fusebox, etc with the engine electronics.

The 20VT engine does seem the most sensible route to take, if you want an 180bhp+ Golf Mk1. The costs are in a different league to 16V (Mk2) conversions, though.
