20v non turbo
Hi, i'm thinking of putting a 1.8 20v non turbo in my runaround golf c. do you think this be a lot simpler than the turbo version? i was thinking i'd save some time with having to fiddle around with the turbo location. also, would i avoid any engine mount fabrication doing it this way? any thoughts?
many thanks

Not a good idea , the installation is just as complicated [and expensive], in fact the only simple part would be the exhaust , and of course not needing intercooler pipes etc for the turbo .
Cheers………
thanks for the honesty, so doesn't the 1.8 20v enginge have the engine mount hole under the cambelt cover too? the electrics part doesn't bother me, i would simply add an aftermarket ecu. what else would need to be done? it was my understanding that these engines bolted straight in?

As turbo engines can be fitted i cannot see any reason the non turbo mounting cant be made to fit. also because of the low power of these engines can use the rod change box which takes care of g/box mounts and driveshafts. dont know about inlet manifold issues. exhaust is no more difficult than any foreign engine.

the 20v will go in without to many probs if you use the passat lump im pretty sure the 8v mount will bolt to the block but you will need to change the zorst manifold

thanks ben. i'd quite like 4 throttle bodies, so the manifold would have to be binned anyway, but thanks for the heads up! when you say 8v mount, do you mean a gti 8v mount? my car is a 1093cc golf c, i'm not sure if they use different mounts? thanks

yes you would need the 8v gti mount but because yours is a small block engine you need to get the gti mount holder welded to your chassis leg
