Has anyone got or done the above as i'm trying to work out the wiring at the moment. I havent got ?120 for the tsr one but i have time and the patience to do it, but i could really do with some info or a diagram maybe of the tsr loom. Anything would be helpful.
Many thanks

Theres some excellent information on the club gti forum, if you start from a gti its pretty simple as you can use your existing loom and just wire in the 16v ecu which is 5 wires to connect.

Just scanned the tsr loom instructions, hope it helps…
are you using the idle stabilisation valve or just using the mk1 air aux valve?
its pretty easy, only about 5 wires

Thanks for that.
Was planning on using the idle stabilisation valve, can you get away without it then?

Yeah, saves a bit of wiring, just use the exsting air auxilary valve from the mk1 engine therefore wiring is all there. put it in between the air pipes as the isv is situated. job done!

I have done a 16v conversion. You need part of the mk2 loom and the ecu that controls the timing.I fitted the ecu inplace of the original ignition amplifier the conections on the mk2 loom main plug connected to ecu ,plug to connect dizzy, long earth wire to battery, and two connections to coil black wire and green wire, blue+white wire to temp sender under waterway on side of head, this will give you correct advance for 16v.
the rest of wiring is same as mk1 .I used auxiciilary air valve instead of isv as they are known to give problems.
I had no problems running it this way been in car 2 years ,tsr loom is a bit pricey. any probs give me shout

Hiya, i'm nearing completion of my Mk1 16v conversion, car starts, Cold Start works etc. It won't idle, which is down to the ISV. I can't find a wiring diagram in any manuals. I know most about the wiring, its just how it all ties in, obviously the ISV, Throttle Switch and the ISV control unit all connect up, but i don't know how and can't find a diagram which relates to this directly. Can anyone help with this? Cheers, Jamie

What model is the car and what wiring have you got from the donor car.

you can tell i've been on holiday, I inevitably crop up in 16v mk1 threads…..
As dub-ha8 said, which model?
Email me i've got a FAQ with details of the mk1 16V wiring, basically what has been said above but a bit more details and labeled images of the loom parts you need.

Thanks for sending the files Dave, were a huge help.
Have sorted most of the wiring, however i've discovered that i don't have a Idle Stabilisation CONTROL UNIT. I got the project from a mate, and he lost it. Can anyone help? My car is a 1983 Mk1 GTi, the engine came froma 1989 Mk2 Gti ( with the larger inlet manifold). I have the white connectors from the Mk2 wiring loom, but no unit to plug on the end. The car starts, and runs, but won't idle with fully closed throttle. Hopefully when i can source a Control Unit she'll purr like a little kitten!! ( i wish!)
Cheers, Jamie
