Hmm, repainting cars and how it affects their price.

There was a discussion about this a while back and whilst repainting a car will not make it depreciate it may not neccessarily add a whole load of value to the car, and it certainly will not add as much value as the cost of doing the work.
However, resprayed cars may be more saleable, as in people will generally show more interest and it will be easier to sell. Plus if it looks nice and shiny they might not haggle as had.

Now if we're talking about 'fancy' paint, this may have the opposite effect as it will appeal to fewer people as once it starts to become custom it falls into a niche market. Also something more than a standard respray like graphics, two tone, colour changes and flip paint will cost more and then you almost certainly will not make your money back if you sell it.

It all really comes down to whether you'll be looking to sell your golf in the forseeable future.
I know I won't make my money back on my golf if I sell it and that's had very little done to it. The last car I sold I taxed, insured and put petrol in it for a few months and I got my money back. The last car my brother sold had a bit of bodywork, some welding, a lot of brake work and some nice add-ons. H 'lost' a good few hundred quid when he sold it.

When all's said and done if it's your car and you want to, do it.

Yradave says relax.

Individualising cars make them less popular to the market but if you plan to keep it forever then go for it. Keep it tasteful though. After all it's a classic car.
