do you just turn it with a big handle at one end?
can you lock it in place?
is there anything to keep in mind when i am making one,size wise etc?

you can just turn it using you hands no hand needed really

yes you can lock it into place with clamps

also when you making it think long and hard about what you need

the ones you by are just a straight bar that mounts into the bumpers, this means you need to get the car very high to mount it on the A frame, also this makes the car unbalanced

with my way with an offset pivot point the car is perfectly balanced and is not very high off the floor at any point. plus with the threaded bar this allows you to raise and lower it off the axle stands

i do have some working drawings for this i shall have a look for them
