no wonder some people are getting fed up with posts like this….
Nicky, best thing to do is register them as possibly up for sale on a plate sale place, something like New reg - they then give you a rough guide as to what they think they are worth..
I've done this a few times and made a few quid whilst at it..
they valued one of mine at ?500 - ended up getting ?800 for it so was well chuffed and I thought it would only mean something to me…
I'd imagine the could be worth something to the right person

and are thus worth lots of money, what with being unique. Plates have been big business for ages but only recently there is this trend to distort letters and numbers quite so much, and abuse the spacing. 10 years ago, it just wasn't that popular and those plates were worth very little. Occasionally you'd see one but more often than not, they were spaced properly and legible and simply not even considered a personal plate at all. (Worth also mentioning that any plate with a single number is worth a little more, because it can be used to spell out someone's initials and tends to catch the eye).
These plate sale brokers are eternal optimists and over-value plates consistently, and also the 'sale' price of a similar plate doesn't indicate its true value. If you've made money off it in the past, its probably a reflection of the current state of the economy than anything else. Personal plates have no utility, practical purpose, or worth in their own right. They are a luxury item, you could relate it to an expensive piece of jewellery. So their values will vary widely long term depending on the state of the economy, which defines how much excess disposable income people on average will have.
There's a couple of exceptions, for example companies with a fleet of vans with personal plates, where they provide a distinctive and unusual advertising tool; or people's initials, where of course its "personal" in the true meaning of the word, but this means that a benign plate could be personal to them and this won't necessarily be reflected in its wider market value, unless its single digit (which makes the letters stand on their own).
Also these days DVLA and the police are really cracking down on misspaced and poorly formed characters. So this is really going to devalue a plate. There is a new law which means if they catch you 3 times with it not properly represented, they can withdraw that plate from the system. Remember, that you don't "own" the registration as such, the DVLA owns them all and merely allows their use, according to their rules.

In my experience the plate dealers/brokers will give you a vastly inflated valuation figure, just to get you to let them have it on their books. Pretty much none of them will actually buy your plate from you though. They will only act as brokers on your behalf.
As an example, a few years back, I had 'RSR 9' It was valued at ?10,000 by a couple of brokers. I advertised it for a bit, and finally sold it on ebay for about ?5000. They're pretty subjective, and really only worth what someone wants to pay, and at the moment, whilst people are not spending as much on non-essential items, the market for cherished numbers is seriously depressed.
Sorry this post hasn't given you a valuation on your plates, but if you do ring any of the brokers, at least now you may not put too much store in the prices they give you. If you just want rid, put them on ebay, and the market will decide.

At a guess I would say that G8LF L would be worth around 500 and P14CID 300
