the dibble pulled me over and gave me a prodcer for no insurance. I had earlier in the day paid the full amount to the insurance company by debit card (which went through) over the phone and they told that I was insured. The copper believed my story and said he would not impound the car, although he did have the power to do so.! he told me there is a lag in the system and could take up to a week for the details to show on the police computer. Is that right?

scary stuff, and glad to hear you got away with it, can't imagine what it'd be like if it happened to me. tend to be in scruffs working on the car, i'm young and got a skin head (ish) bet they wouldnt of believed me lol

I think they can just phone up the insurance company to check?
Well, thats what happens on police interceptors anyway  8)

He did phone up someone and they phoned himback and said the insurance company was closed.

The fact is the car could of been impounded!

The same happened to me a week after I'd insured my car 8O
They believed me as well after I mentioned a few names

I believe it's 24 hours for the motor insurer's database to update so if you'd only done it that day it wouldn't have appeared until midnight.

Show your docs and you'll be fine

same was for me, luckly i had the schedule downloaded & printed of the net.

why did he stop you in the first place?

I went pass a parked up police car on a country lane, then 30 seconds later with the blue lights flashing got pulled over. when I got into the back of the police car the big lcd screen had the insurance icon flashing red, very clever stuff. The copper, I must say went about it very respectfully.

it can take up to a week for the online database to update, best thing to do is get the insurance company to send/email you your insurance cover sheet and keep it in the car untill the above site shows the car is insured.

I also had this problem, it meant I copuldnt tax my car online!  I was able to do it down the post office once they had emaield me my insurance certificate. It took almost a week for the insurance database to show it was insured, the above link is the one to use.

Really? I'd better check my car insurance. Just in case it also happens to me. Better be sure ey?

I went into the police station yesterday and while I was waiting, the man in front of me buzzed the bell at the desk. The woman PC said " I busy can't you see" he said "I've come to take the car out of the compound, here is my insurance", she said "thats not possible as the compound is shut and you will have to come back tomorrow and it will cost you another 20 pounds", he snappped and called her a #### #####. she went around the desk and cuffed him and he ended up in the cells. It all seems wrong to me.
 
My car is still not on the MID register, it really is beyond a joke.

I guess it went reasonably smoothly for him, if he spent the night in the cells and he was released in time for the compound to open?

I did feel very sorry for him, but for me it was more entertaining than watching the bill.

i just checked the MID and is still showing uninsured
