Recommendations?

Hi,

I've been car-less since I moved to London three years ago, and I'm about to move up to Derbyshire/South Yorkshire and am on the look out for a new car (and would really like it to be a Mk1).

My NCB has expired.  I'll be insuring the car at a London postcode (on-street parking too) until I move.  I can't use a Classic Policy as it'll be a daily driver - probably doing in the region of 12k a year.

I just tried the online quote at FJ, and it came back with a premium of 1000 quid fully comp.  I know that once I move (hopefully by the end of the month), the premium will come down a fair amount, but that still seems pretty excessive.  I'm 33, and have been driving for almost 16 years.

Any advice very gratefully received!

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris

im new to the site. I work in insurance but for the over 50's!!! (SAGA) And i doubt i can help you yet! Its a shame you've lost your ncd. How long ago did it expire? Most companies allow you up to 2 yrs without insuring a car before losing your ncd. However I have heard that some companies (could only be rumours) maybe allowing full ncd as long as you can prove you haven't had a claim.
All i can really suggest at the moment is that you "bite the bullet" and take insurance out in london, but pay monthly and in a months time your payments will probably be halved :D
However some companies (you will have to ring around as i can't remember which ones) will offer you two years ncd, 4 yrs being max, as an introductory rate. You will stay on two years until your 3 year but you get cheaper insurance for two years :D

I will have a word around work tomorrow to see if i can give you anymore suggestions
