Footman James Nightmare!!!

Hi

I'm having a problem convincing my broker of the cars valuation.  I have a mk1 Golf GTI Campaign absolutely mint in helios blue, and basically its been scratch down both panels (drivers side).  VAG quoted 700 for respray.  FOOTMAN JAMES sent over an independant accessor to look over the car.

Got a letter this morning to say the car is a "total loss basis" which means the repairs outway the value of the car.  Accessors recon the car isn't worth anything like what we would regard as a fair price.  They said they were going to collect the car for salvage 8O

I know we have a valuation table, but what is the source of these price values.  I recon mine is between E and F.  My insurance is saying i need proof, otherwise they won't pay up :banghead: I could be left with a costly bill :banghead:

Where is the source of this valuation table :dontknow

Did you have an agreed valuation policy?

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I've heard of insurers initially undervaluing a car, but I've never heard of one who wouldn't accept a valuation from the relevant owners club. I'd simply insist that they follow the published price guide, rather than entering into a trail of trying to provide more and more evidence of the value of your car. If you get nowhere with the insurance assessor, ask for his manager/etc and if that gets nowhere, make it clear that your disagreement of the valuation and basis that they're not following the OC guide, is a "complaint". Once they are officially labelled, the company has to record details properly and respond in certain timeframes. If this still gets nowhere, take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
