Wire Guide and Bracket on Gearbox

Post

Hi,

I'm hoping somebody can give me a bit of advice. I am replacing the (incorrect) EZ engine which came with my Mk1 Cabriolet with an EX unit which came from a Scirroco…

So far so good and I'm spending time on the drudge job of cleaning up the "new" engine before "dropping it in".

Can anyone advise me the use and correct fitting of what I would describe as a "Wire Guide" and its associated bracket??   See Pic.

It's obviously associated with the clutch cable and I can see that it would be a good thing to ensure that the cable is aligned to pass through the cast bracket and avoid any chafing. It was fitted to the Golf but was not on the Scirroco. I've slavishly transferred it over to go on the Golf but in reality I really can't see what purpose it serves? Am I missing some part which allows it to support the clutch cable better??

The wire guide is retained by a bracket and bolt. The bracket itself has a carefully formed flange with a hole but I can't see any purpose for that either??

I've seen these parts on other golfs and searched pics off the web - but I'm none the wiser!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

That gearbox would of come out of a Mk2 Golf as they had that bracket, there's no brake mater cylinder above the gearbox like in a Mk1 Golf or Scirocco which had a plastic bracket to hold the clutch cable.

Ah! That would make perfect sense….

So I don't need to fit it to a Mk1?

I am once again grateful for your help!
