where can i get the correct exhaust

Post

Hello guys, need some help, my exhaust is shot well nearly every pipe so I'm going to have to replace it, but when I search for the down pipe, middle section and back box, by entering my reg number in to eco and using " golf mk1 exhaust " I'm to ebay search bar, I can't find the correct down pipe, mine is 4 branch manifold  going in to a single pipe which then connects to a length of pipe which is about a foot long which then goes on to the middle pipe and finishes off with a back box, the trouble I have is getting the correct down pipe or manifold could someone point me in the right direction in where I could get it from all help appreciated

Have you considered going for stainless? https://www.longlife.co.uk/ made to order.

I have thought about that and gave them a call, but they said they only do the staight single pipe bits, so my 4 branch manifold down pipe thing wont get done so I wanted to get that before getting the rest of it stainless steel, thanks tho

I had a similar problem - my whole system was knackered, got a used manifold from Crazy Quiffs, but only had toilet bowl, whereas mine had 6 bolt, so then had to buy the toilet bowl section of an old exhaust from CQ, plus the clips and seal kit. Longlife welded the toilet bowl top section onto the new stainless system.

I see so did u have the down pipe that like a square sort of shape the bolts on to the manifold as that the sort I'm getting when I put my reg in to ecp, mine looks pretty shot so will need doing, don't know why they ain't reproduced these 4 branch downpipe\manifold things lol

Yes, I think we are talking about the same thing. The earlier manifolds ended in a flat plate that bolted to the first section of exhaust pipe which also had a flat plate. These were later replaced by the 'toilet bowl' design that did away with the bolts and used 2 large C-clips to hold the manifold to the downpipe. The older style manifolds are harder to find now, but I think some people prefer them - bolts are supposed to be easier than C-clips.
I spoke to Crazy Quiffs on the phone - very helpful, and they give discount to members.

If you have a picture of what's fitted to your car it would help.
Is your down pipe this type?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ashley-Volkswagen-Golf-Mk1-Gti-16-1800-4-1-Performance-Exhaust-Manifold-/231683125520?hash=item35f163f110:g:OGAAAOSwWnFV8U5Y

Or this early VW type of manifold?

Try and avoid the toilet bowl type of manifold as they restrict the flow of gasses and all 4 pipes goes through that small hole.

If your is like the Ashley 1 and nothing like the 2 VW standard manifold that is why you can't find one when using your Reg or year of car.
2 options as you are replacing/ having the rest of the system made
1. find one the same and fit.
2. Find a different one and fit.

search google images and you may find one like you have fitted but it does not really matter.
The only thing you may find is if you use a different style of down pipe it may not fit to your current system to get the car to an exhaust place to get it changed.

I see so this is a is not a original vw down pipe manifold thing, I don't know why the previous owner done this as the rest of the system is standard apart from a peco big bore on the back hence why I want to replace it with a more standard sort.of a system, so if if I wanted to to change it.back.to original, I will.need a manifold.and the down pipe, does anyone know where I could pick a manifold up mines.a 1.6 if there is a difference between 1.6- 1.8 manifolds, them I can get.the original down pipe and rest.of the system
