Replacement water pump pulley doesn't fit!!

Hi all, 

I have 1980 gli golf, needed to replace the water pump as it was leaking, found a replacement housing and pump but have noticed my pulley wheel doesn't fit onto the new!!

Any advice

This was suppose to be an easy job but it's turning out not to be😤

The locating home is much larger and none of the three bolt holes line

That is because there are 2 styles of water pumps.
A 30mm and a 40mm
Both are internally the same but the Pulleys are different.

If you look at your order yours is probably a 30mm not a 40, however that pump looks more like a Power steering pump pulley, is it possible that you have the wrong pulley.

IIRC the difference was 75-81was 30mm, and 82 the went to 40mm.

I will check my paperwork, the pulley came off the cars original water pump.

I have got a 40mm pulley and housing which came on the car and I've bought a 30!! 😤

I'm a lot the wiser now, thank you for getting back to me it's appreciated.
