Remove body kit

Ok so I've just bought a MK1 that has a body kit that was fitted from new. Highly unusual I know but as I bought it from the original owner he was able to explain that this was a concept at the time (that VW didn't decide to follow) and one he wished to replicate. 

As the car needs to be completely taken back to its bare bones the first thing I'll do is remove the body kit as I need to reveal the horrors that lay beneath and halt any rust. 

Wondered if anybody has any knowledge of how they were attached.

Wow! Don't damage it! Sounds awesome. Can we have some pics?

It'll either be bonded, screwed/bolted or a combination of the two.

Can you see the edges of it at all? Or is the paint done after the kit went on?

 Hi Ian, the paint was added to the kit after the kit was installed. I'll certainly add pics when I have a chance to completely go through it. Wondering if it's a BBS kit? Also won't be crow barring it off just yet!
