Questions about replacing '82 Convertible Top/Interliner

Hey folks,

I've been following BrianO's excellent guide on replacing the top, as well as the CabbyInfo page and a few videos that Chortle is featured in. It's all pretty helpful, but I'm running in to some weird things:

1. Where is the cable supposed to attach at the forward end? For some reason my springs are on the front and not the rear like most of the new ones. See the picture attached. There's no little nub or hook or anything in that channel that it could possibly fasten to. I forgot what it looked like when I took it off which was a dumb mistake, but here we are.



2. What is this extra loop of fabric at the front of the interliner? Picture attached.     It doesn't fit over the rod (I tried and it bunches up horribly)

 I place the rod in the holder and fix the rod in to the keeper and fasten the finger to hold the rod in position.

I found that using a small KEY FOB SPLIT RING, I ATTACH THAT TO THE ROD ABOVE THE HOLDER.
Now you can attach the Spring to the split ring as it makes it more secure and can't come off the rod.

On early cars the size tension cables go through the front side opening as in your photo.
There is no spring on the  rear.

Later cars have the springs on the rear and a plate with pin on the front side.

You must install the side cable on yours at the front before you fasten the Interliner down. The rod locates into stamped holes and you slide the spring through the gap in loops over the metal pice with the hole in it.
Once the Interliner rod is fitted it goes through all the parts and stops the spring from going anywhere. 

Your Interliner looks ripped at the front or fell apart.
