Just fitted a new black mohair hood to my 89 cabbie, thought I would give it a try as it's something I havent done before and I can use the guide on here.
Just finished and the hood and it seems really tight, theres a small gap between the rear window and rear rubber and the piece at the back between the hood and the rear rubber looks wrong I can see the foam stripe under the metal rubber holder.
I havent cut the window out yet as its decided to rain and my fingers can take any more.
Anyone know what's wrong I've had to unscrew the hooks loads otherwise I cant shut the hood
Here's some pictures. Does it look ok

I couldn't get the front to sit correctly, once the window wwas cut out, I had no issues getting the front set correctly to lay flat on the "a" pillar nor did I have any issues with the rear cable.
The Sides could them be positioned properly as well.
Set the rear cable, set the front lip then with the top stretched but not closed cut the rear window opening to about 4-5 inches inside the frame opening.

Thanks for your reply.
Hopefully I am cutting the window out today if the stainless staples arrive and weather permitting. You say I makes quite a difference when its cut.
I did expect it to be tight but seriously its like a drum on the rear window bit.
I had to leave it shut overnight as its outside and hopefully it might stretch the hood into place a bit the hook are undone loads though.
I watch a guy on YouTube do a hood last night, Spanish guy so I couldn't understand what he was saying but he really pulls the bits behind the rear window around the frame, more than I did really.
I wonder if after I cut out the window I could unstick them and pull them around a bit more.
Also I didnt glue the front down as it didnt seem to have glue originally but he puts loads on, he practically glues everything. So might have to rethink that aswell because I noticed it moves up and down slightly when I open/close the hood.

This allows the front seam to lay flat on the "A" pillar.
To get that curl at the front lip you may have to undo the front bar and Pull the top up, then re-position it.
The Glue Stabilises it while you get it in place.
Once the rear window outline is cut out yes you can pull the sides tighter all you have to do is to remove the rear window seals and tray's on the rear and carefully unstick and re-glue them tighter.. I do it with the top half raised as I can get all the slop out.

Bit scary as it still seems tight, I've cut the window hole out but I have left the hood on its hooks, not completely shut.
I've pulled the sides around a bit and re-stuck them.
And stapled across the bottom window bit.
Now just the corners and edge to attempt, (the corners are definitely not playing ball)

The cable is trying to pop out, the bottom bit of the hood doesnt really feel that tight though
Stating to wonder if I've got a mk1 golf convertible hood or I'm trying to shoe horn one for a mx5 .
