Headlights

Was hoping somone could help, I've recently purchased a new pair of crosshair headlights for my mk1 golf. They have arrived today and I've realised there left hand drive! My car is right hand drive. Rather than shipping these back over seas i want to find a way to make these work / legal etc.

My theory is to remove the lense from my original headlights and replace them with the new headlight lenses. Has anyone ever done this is it easy? Just kinda wanna know what i need to do and is it possible thanks

Any other ideas are also welcome

Whether your car is left hand drive or right hand drive doesn't really come into it. The headlamps you have bought are only suitable for countries which drive on the right. Unfortunately I doubt you'll find a way to make them legal for the UK, short of blanking off the part of the beam which kicks up to the right, as people from countries which drive on the right are supposed to do when visiting the UK.

The bulb holder will be set to give the dipped beam "kick-up" to the right, rather than to the left. So swapping the lenses over will not resolve your problem. As well as the lens and bulb holder, the reflector might also be asymmetric, optimised for driving on the right. I think your best bet is to get in touch with your supplier and see whether they are able to swap them for the correct lamps for driving on the left. The lamps they have supplied are not suitable for use in the UK and they should know that.

Well to be honest, the parts provider who shipped the parts are usually novices and are told to pick part "a" and place it in a box to ship.

Some parts providers don't have a brick and motar store but are Internet based and ship from others OEM'sS supply chain.

Basically they are usually part, country, and car ignorant, and are just reading the pick sheet.

Ordering the correct part comes in to play and the onus is on the User behind the keyboard.

I too have been Suckered by ill worded confusing descriptions.

Cutting the lenses off of one for the other will not be a good thing to do as it will probably be worse off.
