Jetex Exhaust fitting issues

Post

Finally got round to trying to fit exhaust to car to try get it running. 83 cab gti. I got given a Jextex exhaust with the car, think its the 2.5", but the manifold supplied did not seem to be a good fit. I found another stainless one on ebay. Got the manifold fitted, 7 out of 8 studs…. long story, but going to need to repair the thread at some point, but 7 should be fine as its a solid flange to mount to head. After a few hours of rolling around trying to get it to all fit. The end on the manifold 'cup' after the fire ring, seems 'baggy' into the centre box. Have others had this and what did they do to over come? I know best bet is to source the correct parts, but want to make this fit, thinking of cutting some how a few more slits, or maybe try and pack out?…. anybody had this and got any ideas? Feel like the system is going to hit the underside of the car, unless I fettle to perfection, or is this unavoidable, would be annoying if it will hit bottom!. Any advice appreciated. Cheers. Trying to get it running first to see how I like it before spending too much money on it!

Sounds like the diameter of the manifold is smaller than the Jetex, or vice versa?
You should be able to fix this with an exhaust reducer.
If that sounds right, search it on Ebay and pick the one to suit your measurements.

Presuming all the other brackets etc line up, you should then be ok…

Hope that helps

hi Andy, thanks for the response. having measured the gap, a reducer would not fit, its only 1-2mm all the way round. I'm going to try and shim it with aluminium. All other brackets seem to fit fine. Thanks for the suggestion though, it helped me come with this this idea. I'm hoping it will work, if not, i'll need to try something else. They joy of tinkering huh!
