New one vs old one. Ga. Fits in every other way.

Struts come in all lengths, and tensions. I spect that there are differences between the manufacturers.

WWW.cabby-info.com has 2 or 4 part numbers on working struts for the cabbies.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Cheers - excellent site.  I'll have a browse around fuller, however it seems to say 'all roofs are the same' and the gas struts all seem to be the same length.  I'll have another look now I've slept, but the main difference is that on the old roof it's a fixed location, whereas on this one the only but seems to be a moving part.  Wonder if chortle could help? It's an interim before I go to him for a new one!

I'll take some better pics tomorrow - basically the top mount that was on the old frame is missing.

Here's a better pic.  Does that make more sense now?

Thanks - yes this is what's confusing me.  The strut doesn't have the attachment point on the rail, and it's not obvious where the other bit bolts to!

I've just noticed - if you fold the unattached bit all the way to the frame it's in roughly the same place as the welded on top mount bit on the old frame.

That piece that is marked looks to be in the wrong position I tend to think that it belongs on the other side of the bar.  On this frame look at the other side to see where that link belongs. Then you will see more daylight in your current darkness.

YES! I hadn't thought of that. I'll have a look tomorrow.

Woke up early thinking about this…..

Looking at the unconnected bit. There is no sign it's ever been bolted to anything - zero wear.  Could it be possible it's never been connected, and the roof has never had gas struts?

I suspect that it is possible that some one had a Hydraulic top frame whose rams and such leaked Stripped it to easy the opening and closing.
personally I have never seen one.

or

Their old frame was bent, twisted and they swapped a hydraulic for a manual.

But if the right side has the post on the rear upright and it doesn't on the left then you are going to have to "fix" it.

I will tell you that you need to look at the one side and compare it to the other as I have never seen a frame with a Extra unused piece that is lounging about.

The Part that I squared, is attached to either the rear bar or the window frame upper.  So look on one side and compare it to the other. is my best advice.

You could PM Chortle to get his views on it as he is the UK foremost top installer and has repaired manual as well as hydraulic tops.

I've decided.  I'm just going to pretend they are for aerodynamics and that it's supposed to be like that.
