Hard pipe fuel line size

Post

Does anyone know what the actual size is of the hard feeder fuel line that runs for the accumulator to the engine bay underneath the drivers side.

1980 1.6 GTI eg engine.

Mine has turned to Swiss cheese and I want to flare on some fittings either end of the straight length and put a temporary repair of fresh copper nickel pipe.

Thanks Craig

I will do eventually I just want to splice in a straight length of copper for now. If it’s 5/16 I can repair it for about £40 and make a good job of it until I get the braded hose kit.

Cheers. Forgot to post on here I have ordered 5/16. Basically the same size. I just hope the O/D is ok with the double flare connectors.  Also got 3 meters of copper nickel pipe to rework the full length. If I am happy with it I shall do the same on the return line. Engine bay sections are fine so correctly jointing in a couple of lengths could become more permanent for me.

Fingers crossed.

im in the process of getting a batch of both 4 speed and 5 speed pipes made, pre bent as per originals. . They are 8mm. But you do need to remove engine to fit them.

I’m not taking the engine out.  Not at the moment. Hacked off with all the work I am doing and not getting it operating nice and tight. Will get it running and then maybe engine out in a year or two.

If it comes out it is being blue printed and a ported head. So I will need to save pennies before I get deep into that.
