Pierburg fuel pump hole spitting oil

Hi there!

Good news is that today I managed to start the engine for the first time since 2009. However, after noticing an oil patch on the driveway, I found that my fuel pump was squirting out oil from a small hole. It's not the same pump as in the Haynes, maybe something to do with the weber not solex carb? Anyway, I think it looks like the hole was there from new. Is it missing a plug, or am I way off?! Car is an '83 Formel E 1.1
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully photo to follow!  IMAG0650.jpg

Cheers

I would suspect that your pump is toasted.
It doesn't appear there was ever a plug there.
I know that on some of the older mechanical pumps I have worked on, they would weep gas out of a hole in the side.  I am not saying that you can run to a hardware store and get a plug or self tapping screw, but I would assume there is an internal seal failure, possible from sitting for a bit it dried out and cracked….

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

its possible there is a diaphragm inside which has split, allowing oil to seep out. regardless if its leaking oil out the back then its bust, replace :)
