Bonnet release handle

Unsure how this has happened but nevermind. Need to get in the bonnet and the handle isn't releasing the catch looks like this. 

Has the white inner come out of the black outer? Pulling the wire by hand does nothing. Should I cut the white back so I can click the nut into the handle again?

I've got the same problem, the cable has come out of the handle and is protruding like yours, how did you get it back in please? Thanks
