Am I flooding her

Hi I have a weird one. This has only happened two or three times in the past 2 months. When I park up to go into a shop or somewhere for say 10 to 20 minutes and return to the car it half fires then stops. Try a few more times throttle it a little and won't start. I have to keep just trying to start it by giving it brief turns of the key and no throttle and eventually it will try to start at which point I have to be on the throttle to catch all cylinders as it tends to fire up on only Two or Three. Not sure if the initial non fire causes it to flood and then takes time to clear. She is a standard 1.6 and normally starts absolutely perfectly with just half a flick of the key. Ideas welcome to identify an intermittent fault. Thanks Craig.

Ha ha. That will do it. Unfortunately I am stubborn and want to keep it as a 1.6 there is something about the little engine I enjoy.

is it a GTI? could be loosing residual pressure due to a leak, faulty accumulator or non-return valve in the pump. there is a small screw in the end of the accumulator, if you can get that out and fuel comes out the hole, its dead

Thanks for the tips I shall give them a go and report back. No fuel was a thought of mine also but did not know why this would be so some checks to do now.
