Scrappage scheme

I'm trading in my formel e on the scrappage scheme can anyone tell me how many parts i can take off before i send it for the chopper? I will be happy to remove any parts people want as long as they still accept it  :?

That question's best answered by the garage you're taking the car to, I imagine different dealers would say different things.

you cant trade that in like that….

from what i gather its got to be roadworthy and thats that…

so get swapping parts with folks who are in need of them.. peopel are crying out for doors etc..

but honestly - go back to dealer - offer casha nd see fi you can geta similar dealfor cash without scrapping the car  - dont crush your mk1

it looks half decent so flog it instead..

I don't think the dealer will care what its like as its getting scrapped and they will get their ?1000 off the Govn. They may be a bit pee'd if its immobile and causes them extra work pushing it around etc.

sorry but you are aware your on a mk1 owners club yes?
if the car is roadworthy then why scrap it in.

sell it on and let someone else enjoy it. you can get the same discount by bartering with the dealership.

The scrapage scheme demands that the chasis from the vehicle is destroyed, nothing else. so the real question is, is your chassis worth 2k?? Im quite sure you'd find someone here who would offer you the 2k to buy your car and keep it on the road!

AXLE, you won't get 2000 for your car. I don't think you'd even get 1000 for it. So if scrappage works out financially for you, its your car! The dealership will probably be just as aware of the demand for Mk1 parts as the people posting above who want parts, so don't expect a lot of understanding if you hand in a shell. They may very well say the deal's off if the car has any obvious missing parts at all. The cars don't have to be crushed, just a "certificate of destruction" issued, which means its depolluted and within the parts recylcing/scrappy industry. They can still strip parts from it to sell off too, so it will have a value even then, etc etc

Of course…..there's the danger you trade it in, don't like the new car, and……..well its too late to get it back…….so do you really want to trade it in for a new car?

I work at my local VW dealership and something to bear in mind is that every scrappage car taken in in part exchange must have an MOT. It's just something that a lot of people are unaware of and gets over looked.

My most upsetting scrappage moment was when someone traded in on the scrapege scheme a 1969 tax exempt ex show car Beetle. The guy who traded it in (who's name I can't mention for legal reasons) would not sell it privately as he didn't want his good show car name tarnished because he thought this car wasn't good enough to put his name to.

I personally think that it would do his reputation more damage if it got out that he'd sent a perfectly good Beetle to the scrap yard in the sky than it would have done to offer it to people who would have loved it for years to come!

I shed a tear when I saw it dragged onto the low loader to be sent away to be crushed.

Thats really really bad. I had a 1962 pre registered beetle which somebody kindly wrote off whilst parked in my work carpark.  To this day I regret handing it over to the insurance company and wish I had brought it back off them.   Why do people do this.

I guess its market forces which decide. After all, the allowance is ?2000, if there was a car which was in good enough condition, or rare enough, or enough of a classic, then it would be worth more than ?2000 and it would be financially more sensible to sell it on (meaning the car is preserved) than trade it in under the scrappage scheme.

The scrappage scheme is a complete and utter waste of time and
tax payers money, and is merely the governments way of supporting
a failing manufacturing industry, which in fairness should sort its self out.

People bleat on about global warming, carbon footprints, energy
waste, got to be green, then………………..

Go and trade in a perfectly good car that has got the carbon footprint
of a yeti. More energy is wasted / consumed in making a new car than
is comprehendible. A Prius (that so called eco / hybrid car) has its
batterys made on the other side of the planet then shipped half way
round the world to be fitted, work that out???? how is that "Green".

Just an easy way for people to get in to more debt, and more revenue
for the financial institutions.

Waste of time in my opinion  :|

we was talking about scrappage scheme at our last meet, one of our attenders mr funk-star who knows his stuff reckons that the car only has to hav a valid tax i think and def an mot cert and log book, you can strip the car to a shel so long as it rolls in the garage and it has those valid certs and the chassey its considered road worthy, he was on about scrapping his and stripping his of parts and if it doesnt run you can deliver it to the garage on a tow truck :dontknow:

Its also got to be Insured, as well as Taxed / MOT`d.

But yes, technically you could roll up in a stripped out shell, and providing
the Dealer was happy you would get your discount. There is nothing in
the scrappage scheme details that says it must be 100% complete, just
has to belong to owner for 12 months or more, taxed, mot`d,insured.

If you read the classic car mags there is a lot worse going to the scrappers than this.

If you can salvage some of the parts for others to use then great. There are still far more MK1 golfs out there than golf enthusiasts.

We are all reliant on cars becoming donors to keep our own cars on the road at the end of the day. A bit harsh but not every MK1 can be saved its just not financially possible. The more cars which are broken for bits the easier it is for us to keep the rest going and maintain the quality of the remaining cars.

What are your front wings like BTW? If they are genuine and salvagable then I could swap a set plus money your way.

In fairness to AXLE, he's tried to sell the car complete to an enthusiast on this site, with no success (see his previous posts etc).
