New Cars

My Golf is all happy to start and run at the moment, so i had some spare time to look at my Bro's Corrado, it won't start and he'd been told to get a new coil, i fitted this and still no look, thought i'd have a good think and leave it alone for a while, so i disconnected the battery earth, and now the keys are locked in the ignition, and i've no spare. Any thoughts on how to get in other than a large house brick?, i hate new cars.

Did disconnecting the battery jam the central locking on? So many bits on modern cars are electrically controlled and when you disconnect the battery the whole car seems to need resetting. Do you belong to AA or RAC? They should be able to break into car without causing damage. If not might be worth contacting a VW dealer and ask them what they would do?

Yet another reason to own a 'proper' old car, although I do have to reset my clock whenever I remove the battery   .

Yeah its jammed, and no im not a member but been seriously thinking about it, more so now. my local garage will be getting a call soon i think. Its not the first time ive done this though, my better half had used my car one day parked it against a post and got out the passenger side, it was mid winter, i got up early to run the car and de-ice it, and the anti-jacking system locked me out with the car running. Nice one luv, but of course it wasn't har fault!

AA/RAC membership quickly pays for itself when you regularly drive an old car. Me and my girlfriend pay ?80 a year for AA relay. On average have about 2-3 recoveries a year  (do put 15000-16000 miles a year on the two mk1s). One of these breakdowns alone would have cost ?80 if garge had recovered it plus you don't pay by the mile. Once had rear brake failure 8O just before I was about to stop to fill the car up with petrol. Got relayed 100 miles or so to destination which meant saved ?15 on petrol which paid for the new brake pipes etc
