Mk2 golf with Mk1 P slots on it for sale

A work collague showed me his son's G Reg Mk2 golf 1.3cl with no MOT today because he wants to get rid of it from his driveway and wondered if I wanted it for about ?50. I noticed it has true Mk1 P slots on it with the correct part numbers on, do you think its worth buying it just for the alloys? The car could probably be put on the road again easily too and he still has the original steel wheels to go on it.

The alloys are in pretty good condition but didnt have centre caps unfortunately, but I didnt ask if they have them, they might!

What do you think worth buying? Are proper mk1 Pirelli's that rare?

If you have the time, you could end up making a tidy profit.

I would do it. But then regret it after getting an ear bashing from the Mrs, "another car!"

I might do it, but will consult the opposing parties first! It will be car no. 3 at my parents and the GF wont like it! A thorough look at the car will be another deciding factor to see how good/bad it is. I've done it before with another ?50 Mk2 but only just broke even (the rear axle bushes needed doing  :banghead: ).

The car might tidy up ok but the 160k on the clock would put many off, and its on engine number 2, has mars pink paintwork! and is a little rusty. The interior didn't look too bad though.

If it does not sell take it down the scrapper - or get the council to collect it - they only charge ?27 here.

That'll still be only ?77 for a set of P's which, if in reasonable nick is still worth it.

Got to be worth ?50 for the wheels alone.  Buy it, stick a set of steelies on it, send it for MOT - there is a chance it might pass (or pass with a very small amount of work).  If it does its got to be worth a couple of hundred quid to someone as a cheap runabout - if it fails miserably, stick it on ebay as MOT failure for ?1 and whatever it gets to - thats got rid of it…

scraps worth a bit at the mo - most breakers/scrap yards will collect cars at the moment, they'll even give you ?30 if the cars less than 10 yrs old!
