Depends on the age & condition really, but as far as mine is concerned

Pro`s : Great fun, looks different as its gettin old now (23yrs)
           easy to work on, cheap parts, cheap to run (most of the time)
          4 seats & a boot, talking point if you meet another Golf owner!.

Cons: Window seals are getting hard to find & chrome trim, and some
          interior parts depending on the colour etc..  .
         
If you see parts for sale,buy them! you never know when you will
need them!, (eg, roof handles, door cappings,badges)
