i've not voted, because while i do believe that this man was responsible for this families deaths. i do no agree with the part of the story stateing that they believe he was using his laptop just because they found the laptop facing the driver. (the force of the impact wouldn't have moved it at all)

and also if this man had not have killed these people (but still had the very same accident) would you still expect him to get 3 years.

the punishment should fit the crime, unfortunately this time someone died.

i am i'm no way in favour of this man. i'm just trying to point out that the crime was (so we are told) him using his satnav and thus careless driving,

i think that anyone caught using mobiles/satnavs should get 3 years.

how many other truck drivers have done the same thing and got off scot free.

the outrage is that he killed 4 people and got 3 years. noone seems to be taking into account that the driver was actually doing wrong

Twas ever thus.

Car speeds around a bend hits a car. Car speeds around a bend hits a car and kills child sat in back seat.

Do you think the judge would give the same sentence on both occasions? The 'crime' was the same (speeding around a bend) but the resultant outcome very different.

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

exactly what i'm trying to say.

truth is first one is an insurance claim,
second one is a spell in prison (and if not, it's a media frenzy)

He should have got a much longer sentence.I imagine because he pleaded not guilty he has not even apologised to the families of these victims?

Though you could try another poll or question-who has never answered a mobile, looked for a cd or rummaged around in the glove compartment when driving.?If answered honestly I shouldn`t think many of us could answer`No`

Food for thought perhaps.

I understand where you're coming from whatalotafun but the bloke's a professional driver and according to the report knew he was approaching a major incident. If it were proven he was using his laptop it would've been different I know but the judge had an option of five years and it should've been. I don't want to condemn the bloke because I bet he struggles to sleep at night. Maybe the Statute book needs reviewing  :dontknow:

i can answer the above question honestly and say NO!

however i have done some very stupid things in my 7/8/9 years on the road and i HAVE put other lives as well as my own in the balance and i am not proud of this, i learnt my lesson with a close call and i explain this to all the youngsters who i meet on there bikes hoping that they can learn by my mistakes and not make them themselves.

when you see the fear in a ladies eyes as she stands in the road holding her daughters hand, while you screatch up infront of them on 400kilos is metal you learn very quickly that the next time both of you may not be so lucky.

now days, i'm that man infront of you doing the speed limit. i'm sorry for holding you up, but in my opinion i have very good cause to.

The sentence was an absolute disgrace.

6 people died in a fireball due to the "careless" driving of this individual.

Whilst perhaps most of us could say we have done things silly, this man for whatever reason, wiped out a whole family.

Hope he gets hell.

The sentence is to short and i find this bit shocking. "serve at least 18 months of his sentence in jail."
He should spend all of it there not half!

I'm gonna go right against the grain here.

I thought the sentence was about right. You can't say this guy killed this family on purpose? that he aimed his lorry at this specific car and wanted to kill them?

he has to live with the guilt of killing those people for the rest of his life and spend the next 3 years in prison. I think he's had the right amount of justice.

just my opinion.

beenie, would you say that if it was members of your family?

Whether he meant to kill them or not, isn't the right stance to take in situations like this, the question is was it easily avoidable?  Note it was an incident not an accident.

I don't think 18 months is enough time for him to lose enough of his freedom, current life and luxury to cause him much problems when he gets out or in anyway recompense the suffering he's subjected a whole family to and their friends.  He should serve longer so that his life is made as difficult and as miserable as possible while he's in and when he gets out.  He needs to lose alot longer than 18 months of his life.

Mind he might feel guilty for the rest of his life, but the family and friends of the folk who died will ALSO suffer the rest of their lives, he's done alot more than ruin just 6 peoples lives.

BEWARE KY05 UCO, blind and deaf white haired driver of red transit, avoid at all costs, he thinks running cars on to the verge is ok. i'm fine, car's fine, mood and make up not so good.

very good point, I think he should serve the full 3yrs. as 18 months isn't enough. I think he should have a bloody long driving ban though 10+ years.
it's hard to say what he deserves, i'm sure he's sorry now though.
