The chrome bumpers alone must be worth a few bob as you all know
Yep, unfortunately this one is the kind of car which is worth more in parts, than together. Its a bit sad to see the little ones (non-GTI) decline in numbers so much, but that's life I'm afraid.

Only if people let it.
The " must have a gti " mentality has a lot to answer for, which is why i've got a driver !!

Yes, that's partly my point - for this little fella, there's still time for someone to save it and hopefully either restore it or just keep it running and gradually improve it. I think its handy to keep the base models running, to serve as a useful comparison for the (arguably) top model (GTI). And of course even a base model is cute!

I reckon it'd be a shame to break her so I'd like to use her as my daily driver and do her up as and when time and finance permit.
I've recently sold my '91 corrado G60, can't afford another one but want another VW. I got a (now deceased) mk2 8v Gti but it just doesn't do it for me - this caught my eye and despite the 1.1 engine I'm smitten

If it runs nicely, and you know a welder, you could grab yourself a real bargain I reckon, but I wouldn't pay over ?300 for it. Check the rust on the inner arches isn't too bad, and also have a close look at the sills before buying too…

I just picked up a S plate (76 manufacture) 1.5GLS, 5 door, good runner, quite tidy - needs a very small bit of welding and a few bits and bobs for the MOT. Chrome bumpers missing and wing strips. Otherwise mostly there.
?165 which is on the cheap side. Yes it was off the 'bay. Need to put some pics up soon.
