Going to look at a 'new' car today, advice please

Hey guys,

Today im off to see a new car that the family is thinking of buying. It's a 1988 1.3 golf mk2. It all looks to be in good order, but I was wondering what sort of things I should check for when going to look at it? It it the same sort of checks as the mk1? Any bits and bobs would be welcome!

Thanks :)

Make sure that the mileage is accurate, check the service history and take it for a test drive.

If its cheap, it will be for a reason - try to find what the reason is. Expect a few faults, in fact make a list. Then go onto the Mk2 Golf OC and ask how much it would cost to rectify those kinds of faults. For a mk2 there should be little/no corrosion, though. If there is, look for another, its not worth getting into welding/body restoration on a £250 shed, etc. unless its really easy for you, considering how many other non-rusty ones there are.
