Fellow dubbers - recognition

I know this has been mentioned before but something happened today so thought I'd bring it up again.  Do you get recognition from all dubbers, some dubbers, just mk1 dubbers or no rubber dubbers at all?

Got a wave and thumbs up when passing a blue 5 door mk1 the other week in my green gti.

Drove passed a few campers and waved but got nothing back….

Today there was a ratty camo look vw caddy (not a mk1 it looked like a newish vw caddy).  I saw them pointing as they passed me and the missus… they then slowed down and I overtook them… queue a flash of his lights and a wave… a quick switch of the hazards and a wave back and everyone is happy.  What's been your experience with all fellow dubbers?

It depends on the driver of the other car more than anything, whether they're really into VW's, go to shows or buy the car mags etc. You can be blanked by someone else in a Mk1 Golf, then randomly waved and flashed at by someone in a Mk4 Golf!  :P  I tend to just smile and get ready to raise a hand for certain rarer VW's in case they do anything, so I don't end up waving to myself! Generally, I don't expect a wave or flash from anything younger than Mk2 sort of age. I saw a Mk2 'rocco twice on the same day and we flashed eachother both times. Another time it's some old bloke in one and you might aswell not bother trying. Aircooled drivers are in a 'wavers club' of their own I think, which is fair enough.

yeah similar things for me too altho got confused the other day when it looked like a guy in a completely standard mk4 polo waved n flashed at me, unless i'd got a light out   haha but yeah anything low n with a vw badge i get ready to give a flash or wave, golf or not :)

There's a guy I see mainly in the summer in his Black Cabby and he goes nits when ever he sees me, there's another guy in a MK4 and he always waves too. It's worse of all when you forget you're in another car and find yourself waving and getting that blank look back.

There is a young guy in a ratty m1 polo who always flashes and waves which is good to see some of the water cooled are up for it as others are not, even got a wave form a guy in a nice 944 this summer which was also good to see :D

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

I owned 2 air cooled campervans until last year and from my experience as a Type 2 owner/ driver only fellow air cooled drivers would wave though I seem to recall a MK1 Colf driver waving once but this is a rare occurance in my experience. Furthermore, I use to own and drive other classic cars over the years and find that when I took my VW camper to a classic car show I was ignored by other classic car users! Before you say it's because my camper was in poor condition it wasn't as it was in A1 condition. I tend to wait to see if there's a response from the other driver as in the past I have often waved/ acknowledged some one else but never got a response!

proper euro / hellaflush mk3s seem to love mine! Always get a toot or wave. Seem to get a nice reception from aircooled too.

Well I've just got the strangest greeting ever while driving around derby earlier. Was driving along and saw a bus coming towards me flash his lights and wave! I was slightly confused and looked around but there was no one else about so must of bin waving at me.

Left me wondering if there was anything hanging off the front of my car or something

got beeped, flashed and thumbed by 3 mk3 vr6's in a row on a cruise on sunday.  The missus didnt know what was going on! Then got a wave and thumbs from a mk2 gti later on!  But dont usually get anything unless its a mk1 or caddy.  Air cooled folk round here are a bit stuck up - used to get waved loads when I had my bay, alas not now in a lowly mk1!

I get totally ignored by everyone……. When Im in the X Trail (or the Stealth as my mate calls it!),

but in the cabby I get loads of waves and lads rubbernecking trying to have a good look. Sometimes Im chuffed to bit, other times a bit paranoid that somethings up!  :redfaced:

Always wave to Mk1s and Mk2s and usually get acknowledgement unless it's some (other) old person in a non-gti. Had greetings from splitties, beetles and bays but I've never been waved at or had one returned by a cabriolet driver - maybe it's just the people round here

Id say alot of dubbers are pretty uch addicted, thats what it is, you see a mk1/2 etc even mk3s :P and you nearly pop out of excitment then sometimes your that excited you forget to wave.

I always flash etc what ever dub if they are showing that they love the dubbage…

I notice some mk2 drivers look at you confused wandering what your flashing at, its shocking.

Asume the people who are dub-eds get all happy and eople who own vws, dont.

Either way, i still love it.

Had a fair few unexpected cars say my cars nice, f40, rs4, scoobys, skylines seem to be fairly friendly drivers (Or flanges) and randomly some dude in some random other farrari duno what it was, chased me for a while and we had a little fun, then he was full hapy loving the mk1, he was about 80 too, he was an oap we all aspire to be…. ahaha

He drove next to me beaming with a hugeee smile on his face with his thum up, usually the other way round ahaha….
