There are a handful of b-reg Mk1s, I've seen two before. Unusually, but not that special unless the 'b' does it for you. It's just a campaign that was sitting around in a dealership waiting it's chance to be sold.

Poor little thing would be watching all the brand shiny new mk2s go out of the dealer and be thinking, 'why not me!'.

Cheers,

Drew.

Yeah I saw that too. Its an interesting anomoly, as Drew points out, brought about by the new Mk2 being bought in preference and it standing a long time in a dealership, or VW's yard.

More likely its was either waiting at the docks or sitting in a field full of other VWs, as the MK2 had just been launched there are possibly a few late mk1s just like there are a handfull 'L' reg mk2s when the MK3 had been about as early as a 'J' You will find most manufacturers will over lap new and old models

slight misunderstanding here, i'm not asking if this is a future classic's
their's a trader of mk1/mk2's who i think trades under the name "future classics" i think this is one of his cars i reconise the backdrop from other cars his sold before :dontknow:

as for the car course it's a calssic and what appeals to me is the fact that because it's a b reg it will always cause a bit of a stir and your never struggle to sell it, stands out from the crowd

always an excuse  (he is right though as usual drew) but inside the brochure is has Gti with a little t and i , did the badging on the early model which is italic have a little i Rajan?

I thought that historically, its been written (by VW) as both GTI and GTi, so its not really incorrect either way. If you want to analyse it properly, then you'd conclude that its GTI, because its an initial and in English language, initials are written in capital letters. But I'm cool with GTi too…

VW messed around with the rear badging of the GTi quite a lot to start with. The first mules ran under the "Golf LS" badge. Then I think they almost called it the "Golf TS" like the Scirocco as I have a pic of the badge. Then came the "Golf GTI" (capital "I") in italics for most of the protos and first production cars. This is what my '76 has too. Finally came the "normal" "Golf GTI" badge. So the badging has always been with a capital "I", but in a lot of the VW literature it is written with a little "i". I don't think there is a right or wrong, but seeing as I find it strange that VW should use a little "i" in such a way there must have been an intention behind it. Hence I always use "GTi".
