A Good Price??

Hi Guys,

I have been quoted ?350 to Remove, Strip, Rebuild and Refit the engine in a MK1 1988 GTI is this a good price? I know it will be a good job because its a friend of the family:)

I have been quoted ?195 + VAT for the following parts from a local engine place to rebuild the engine with:

Head Bolts
Full Gasket Set
Mains Bearings??
Big Ends?
Piston Rings
thrus bearing?

Is this also a good price??

Sorry for all the questions :)

Hi

sounds pretty good to me.

Ive been quoted ?215.00 to change the cambelt and check co2 etc from VW today. So i would say in comparison you have a pretty good deal.

Sounds about right for the labour ~14 hrs at ?20 per hour

Parts don't sound bad but you might consider:

Valve guides
Cam followers
Pistons
Oil pump

Oh and engine build/prelube

Might not be needed but you will not know until stripped and measured.

You ought to consider machining costs also:

Bore honing
Crank polishing/grinding
Head crack/pressure testing/Welding
Valve seat grinding
Balancing

And probably other stuff

Sorry, don't want to scare you but don't want your budget to run away with you
