Starting issue?

Hi Guy's
Does anybody know of any other ignition fuses etc besides those in the fusebox?  I was tucking away some wires hanging out by the steering column and pop/flash from them. i think someone had used scotchlocks at some point and left a knicked wire bare.
On turning the ignition switch nothing happens at all, i have checked all the fuses in the fusebox and these are all ok. before I start out with the meter and taking the dash etc appart has anyone any ideas of what to look at first.
I have not yet got a manual as I have not long picked up my 89 clipper.
Thanks for any help

Scott

there should only be fuses at the fusebox, though dodgy alarm installations and the like could have them anywhere. not every wire is fused though so be prepared to find all melty wires

Thanks mate…may have had an alarm at some point, stickers and dodgy wires point to this. I will be looking into it this week after doing the brakes on my BAJA.
All the visible fuses are ok…now for the hidden ones! :dontknow:

Don't think there's any fuses in the fusebox which can blow and prevent a Mk1 Golf starting and running…..in other words, the basics (coil, starter motor solenoid) are simple circuits switched by the ignition switch with live unfused power coming to and from it.

If it were a GTI, then there's (a) fuel pump(s) and there is a fuse for this, but its mounted on the relay, not directly on the fusebox.

So, if you accidentally shorted some wires, its possible that you've burnt out wiring or terminal connections behind the fusebox, rather than blown a fuse.

(Pretty much everything else is fused, though).
