Speedo stoped working

Driving yesterday and noticed the speedo was bouncy up to 20 mph and today it does not work, could it have just come off the back and will this effect the fueling on the car

mines doin somthing similar.
its is if it needs to warm up befor it kicks in but it works fine once it does
but yesterday i drove it home from the pub an it didnt work.
very strange…

The speedo is basicly three parts . The head the cable and the plastic drive in the gear box . What you do is first replace the plastic drive pinion [cheap] and see what happens , if still the same change the cable [?35.00] . Lastly you will then know its the head and thats the bad bit as VW want ?120.00 + for a new one .

The plastic drive in the gearbox , removal, is covered in Haynes manual , buy the correct colour as there are 3 different types .
