mk1 diesel

hi everyone i have bought a mk1 1.6 diesel, its  an old "Y" reg and its a 5 door. the temp gauge doesn't work at all and was wondering where the first place to look was, there are also a few other probs but i'l get pics of them after i have sorted the temperature issue (one at a time ) lol. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

look on the flanges on the front/side of the head, one should have a single pin sensor with a red/yellow wire going to it, this is the temp sensor. if the wire has fallen off, hook it back up, if not clean the connections up and check again. if it still doesnt work, touch the wire to the engine block or chassis, and check the gauge again, it should be at max.  if it is the sensor is broke, if not the wire or gauge is broke.
