DX Engine Not Idling

I have a problem with a Dx engined Scirocco Storm,

The engine starts and runs briefly when the ignition is turned , but as soon as the engine is up and running, unless it is reved the engine dies instantly and whilst the engine does run the battery warning light is on (if reved the battery warning light does go out)

The fuel pump buzzes etc, but repeated starting makes the engine progressively harder to start, indicating possible fuel flooding?

I'm wondering if its a poor earth, or anyone got any suggestions?

ive just had a similar problem with a dx

was a bad earth, theres a list of earth points in the archive, (i think)
