diesel help

hi all i hav just got my caddy back from service and the garage have done something to it as it wont start unless a live wire is connected from the positive terminal of the battery to one of the glow plugs  :?  the guy said he doesn't want to touch it any more so now im puzzled as it was fine before i took it there, any ideas? also a new gearlinkage bush kit was fitted and now its hard to find the gears, think they need lining up :dontknow:  1st gear is almost impossible to get

I've got an idea, take it back. My parents have got their own garage and we would never make a car worse and then just hand it back. If they can't sort it they will need to get another garage to carry out the works and foot the extra bill themselves.

if the glow plug light comes on the dash, then check the fuse located on the bulkhead, ita a metal strip which with old age rots away

Sorry to have a mini-rant but I'm fed up hearing about so-called "professional" garages who don't know how even simpler/older cars work and end up either skirting around the edges diagnosing, or bodging, or fixing but introducing new faults into a car.

Nothing much I can do about it though, except to advise not to pay any cash if you pick up a car and it doesn't work properly.

Long term, all I can say is get yourself a Haynes, and learn to do DIY stuff on a car.

Must admit most of the guys at my parents garage would prefer working on older vehicles as manufactureres are making it harder and harder for local garages to work on new ones.

hi all, went down to my dads (where the caddy is) had a look in the bay but couldnt find the fuse you are talking about there was a 7.5 amp blade fuse coming off the battery so a sender or something on the master cylinder but that was fine, any other ideas?

follow the main thick cable from the glow plugs, you will find the fuse that way   its usually got a plastic cover over it
