Blower working intermittently

My blower (fan) seems to be giving up

Sometimes it works, just about… other times it doesn't at all.
Sometimes it works when turning left too  :dontknow:

Theres plenty of heat, so even with the blower not working the car still gets warm etc.

Does this sound like the blower needs replacing?
Is there anything else I should check before ordering a new one?

I took the scuttle off over the weekend and cleared out the leaves (there weren't many) and checked the wiring which all seemed to be intact.  I'm still to get the multimeter on it.

By the sounds of it it's more likely to be the wiring than the blower.  Like you say, multimeter.

Try a switch??

Spray the heater fan bearing with WD40 , soak it , it may be partially seized .

Under the scuttle cover , white heater fan cover liberally spray centre part from all angles , run the fan .

I had a similar problem last month, popped the bonnet removed the blower cover and gave everything a good clean. Rotated the fan blades back & forward by hand then put it all back together. Hey presto, it started working again…   8O :D

worth a try,  :dontknow:
it doesn't cost anything & only takes a few minutes

and if not the your bushing is dead or you have one winding dead. both will stop it working.

fingers crossed best case rather than worst case.

Thanks all, will try the multimeter tonight and then give it a liberal soaking in WD40 if it seems to be getting power.

I've also ordered a new switch from GSF as it was cheap enough to try.

Quick update on this.

I tried the multimetre last night and found there seems to be no power getting to the blower.
I've not yet checked to see if the blower fuse is getting power.  Just about to do that.

On a possibly connected note though, my heated rear window doesn't work.
Do the blower and the heated rear window share a ground point?
That should tell me if the two issues are connected.

Update again…some good, some bad

Blower has now completly given up, doesn't work at all.

I doubled checked that it was getting power and it is, a full 12 volts.  Maybe I didn't have the ignition on the last time I checked… :dontknow:

Either way I changed the switch which hasn't fixed it, so can only now assume that it's the blower that needs replacing.

The heated rear window seems to be down to a dodgy switch though.  So should have that fixed by the weekend with a new switch on it's way  8)

Thanks Scouse, do you mean the leaf guard, or the large plastic surround around the blower and heater matrix?

Are the bushes available seperately?
Can I get them from somewhere like GSF?
