Spraying engine parts

Post

I had some parts powder coated a while back in the engine ie rocker cover, alternator, fan cover etc and all looked great but now a lot of it is bubbling up or cracked form the heat of the engine and looking a bit naff. Presumably it was not prepped well at all.

I'm wanting to remove the rocker and alternator amongst another pile of parts and spray them satin black and some silver to look more factory spec. With the heat etc, i have some VHT spray paint that seems good but i'm looking more for a HT primer or is an Etch primer ok prior?

i can sandblast everything at work and then use a parts washer after to get them all prepped.

Does anyone have an recommended rattle can products??

powder coating shouldn't have done that, I think it was the powder coaters that failed to clean or prep the things prior to powder coating them. could even have been a oven baking issue that the oven wasn't hot enough.  I would take it by them and see what they think.  Should of been a warranty on the job I would bargain….

I personally use Engine Hi-temp paint. But either way proper prep is needed.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Is etch primer sufficient once it has been prepped? and then a top coat of HT paint?

I did the self etching primer and coated it with semi-gloss Grille (charcoal) paint.  Any good HI-temp shoudl be fine.

I would take it back to the powder coaters tho, and see if they will re-do it for free.

Thanks Brian. I didnt pay much at all for the powder coaters to do it. Well when i say powder coaters, they were a fabrication firm who did some work for me but also mentioned they occasionally did some powder coating. It wouldn't be worth the fuel going to get the work for free lol I will trust my own prep work.
