Leak causing damp/dank smell

Post

So the passenger drain hole beside the scuttle tray decided to block up with junk prior to winter and after having the car covered for several months, the latest down pour filled the said area and dumped a ton of water via the heater fan etc into the floor pan of the car.

Ive fixed the problem, soaked up all the water, dried the sound deadening material and the carpets but i still have that musky smell. Id drop the cab roof but its like being north of the wall up here at the moment. Any home tips to remove the smell. Air freshener isnt doing too much

Leak causing damp/dank smell

De humidifier is the thing you need.

Maybe aqua vac first to remove any old stagnant water. Plus it’ll push cleaner nicer water and cleaning fluid through.
Some cleaning fluids have deodorisers in them.

A debris guard helps with keeping leaves and such out of the drains, as well as re-running the Washer lines and suck out of these holes.

I have a how do I make a debris guard in the archive sections.

They have products called DAMP-rid in a  can that you can place in your car to absorb moisture, then when they change color you can either replace or remove to a oven and bake at 300 for about an hour and the moisture that is locked in them can bake out to re-use.

I also would use a good clean water source and a wet-dry vac with a Mold/Mildew agent to reduce the smell, and freshen it up.  I got really good at pressure washing my carpets, then using my shop vac to pull all the dirt and stuff out.   Once that was done I used fans to circulate air to evaporate out the remainder.  The issue with the cold limits you to what you can do right now.

A dehumidifier or desiccant and a deodorizer is going to be your friend for the short term.

I have also had good use with a carpet cleaning vacuum unit, but again I used HOT really HOT water with soap and a anti-fungal non-bleaching agent. Then again I used fans to blow air about the cabin to aid in the evaporation.

Think of using a Product that is for pet stained carpets….

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

It has been a few days now and most of the smell seems to have gone now since it has all dried. I think some of the damp air was lingering around and now the air freshener and having the doors open for a good while has circulated around. Im defo going to invest in a wet vax though to help wash out stains and smells from the carpets over time
