I've never actually cleaned a car before!

So as titled car cleaning isnt really my thing and I've never made it past a bucket of water, fairy liquid and 50p sponge but I intend to make an effort with my Mk1

Im hoping someone can point me in the best direction, I've been looking at products from Meguires, Auto Finesse and most recently Poorboys

M and AF both come in packs which is handy but the black specific products from PB's look good to

Any input appreciated

Poorboys stuff is good.

I have stuff from them for light cars, dark cars and red cars!

Once you've done the above ^ then it's time for:
Clay bar - removes the stuff embedded in the surface (Halfords do a Meguirs kit for this that is excellent)
Then a polish is needed. Depending on scratches and or marring either a compound then a polish or just a polish.
Meguirs is good (again from halfords for convenience) or Poorboys SRP2.5 is excellent.

Now for a glaze. If your car is dark then Poorboys black hole is brilliant.

Then a wax. Again Poorboys Nattys Paste Black is excellent.

Enjoy. Hope your hands and elbows are in good condition and brimming with grease!

That is what they make buffers for….:)

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

borednow thats exactly what I went for.

Ordered poorboys black hole glaze and natty black wax.
Got auto finesse shampoo.
Didnt go down the clay bar route but after spending most of the weekend on the body it looks phenomenal, like its made of black glass

borednow actually not to bad, I polished and waxed over the course of a weekend and did it in blazing sun and it still wasnt to bad to get off.

Actually considering the red version of both to do my Octavia (which I haven't cleaned in 3mths of ownership)

I can highly recommend a mop.

Don't need to go mad and buy a ridiculously expensive one.

Just makes life a bit easier.

I've used the red stuff on Clive as he's paprika red and it seems to add a nice bit of depth to the colour..

I've got a kit to use with my compressor but the cab is that small and roofless it didnt seem to warrant it.
Might be a different story on the Skoda though
