Your radio in your mk1?

Post

My mk1 project has no radio and holes in the door cards, so I plan to fill the holes with just plain subtle speakers, but want a modern cd with aux radio, needs to look period though, no halfords flashy blue lights job, any suggestions?

I have one of these VW beta stereos. Can have multichanger/single CD player or iPod lead fitted and looks very original.
Pretty cheap too

Gamma radio is the better of the two-has four speaker outlets as opposed to two on the Beta.

I use one of the connects 2 adapters for my iPod

I've hidden my head unit in the glove box, far from OEM, but means I can listen to my iPod/cd/radio and watch a DVD if the mood takes me!

Yep, the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 49.

And if you want to go for the full Monty add the Blaupunkt Graphic Equalizer BEQ-S (if you can find one working and a sensible price).
Just for good measure, chuck in an early Blaupunkt  TravelPilot, which are far more fun to use than the modern ones.
Yes it's out of year and yes the maps are out of date but what the heck, what fun!
Doesn't look out of place either.

Then put in an authentic electric aerial just to add the finishing touch.  :)

Would change it for anything!

I dont think I have a picture but I have the original Blaupunkt mono radio, AM/MW only (Gold radio is great ) With one speaker. I modified it so I could plug in any modern phone or MP3 player through a 3.5mm Jack plug in the footwell. I started a thread a little while ago, it might give you some inspiration but remember this is for a mono radio so only one speaker! other than that Retrosound seem quite popular!:thumbs:http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=electrics_2%2Fblaupunkt-radio-din

Think that's my favourite so far, would love an original but for a daily driver would rather have modern features

I have a Pioneer DEH-8400BT which was fitted new a couple of years ago that kinda has a retro look in that it's a basic plain black and chrome finish that blends in well without looking too out of place like a lot of the newer ones but has just about every feature you would need… I wanted something with a bluetooth phone function so went with a newer model even though the car is seldom used but better safe than sorry in this day and age.

Worth looking at if you want something new with decent functions… and should be a decent price now with newer models out.
