***brand new replacement loom / wiring harness***

Post

just wondering if anyone has done this? Currently restoring another car and have decided it would be a much better idea to simply start again with the wiring harness to avoid any dodgy earths, broken cables etc etc. if anyone could help or point me in the right direction of a company offering this I'd appreciate it

There was a post on here from some time ago by VW Heritage about making up new looms for the Mk1 GTi but nothing ever came of it.

You could try Mk1 Autohaus in USA, but there are probably differences between the American & European cars.

Well it depends on what it is, the Cabriolet is German Built so it is more aligned with the Golf that you have.

The Golf/Rabbit differences are VAST, as they used different fuse panels first off. Then some of the wire colors are different on american cars as well.

MK1Autohaus is a Good guy, been ordering parts from him for years, if you have a question email him, as he will answer your questions but may take a day or three to respond…. His store name is Moogie, (aka Ben).

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Just give your existing loom to any decent auto electrician, get them to renew the wiring and re pin the existing connectors.

Or vwlooms.com would probably do it for you.

i need a new loom for my 1989 mk1 cabriolet 1.8l so i contacted vwloooms (as suggested above) and spoke to john who advised he is in the process of building a loom for a mk1 golf series 2 (1080-1982)  RHD for some other customers and said if it would fit mine then he could very easily build another one so can anyone advise if it would please?

I'm not an expert on later cars, but given how many variations there are in the Haynes wiring diagrams from year to year I think it very unlikely that they are the same.

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here

I should clarify I'm not really an expert on any model to be honest, but I know my 83 gti inside and out :)
