Random one for you

Over the years with house moves etc, i have always struggled for somewhere dry to work on my car. I have had garages at home but they have always been filled with lawn mowers, kids bikes and pretty much everything else family life brings, which has meant being able to work on the car in the dry has been almost impossible let alone store it.

Anyway in the last 12 months i have been able to secure myself a workshop / unit in which i can park multiple cars and work on them to my hearts content, which has got me wondering. Is there a requirement out there for workshop space where people can come and bring their cars for the day to work on them? somewhere dry with power that means you dont have to work on your car on the drive in the rain?

I have been thinking about this for a while, as if something like this was available locally to me when i wanted to service the car, or change the disks and pads i would happily of paid for the privilege. I have done some research and see there are places in the UK like this available a sort of self service workshop, that supply tools etc but im just thinking of somewhere dry :), where you bring your own tools / parts.

Anyway ramble over, i just wondered what everyone else thought

Many thanks

Yes there is a requirement but think you'll come unstuck with 3rd party liability insurance, business rates and regulations.

Do you mean something like Home - This is Your Garage : This is Your Garage ? They have a big unit in Oxford. Each bay has tools, lifts etc … seems like a great idea to me.

I too have thought about this - about 30 years ago when having access to a ramp would have been amazing. Even spoke to my firendly local mechanic about it, but as Early has said, the insurance would be the issue. Shame really.

A shared rent on a workshop space would be great. Maybe get 4 to 8 people all chip in to cover costs and share insurance costs.

Then able to keep the cars clean, dry and safe + space to work on them.

Equally like minded people about to help, share tips, lend that special tool from etc.

Downside is someone does not pay or is a messy xxxxx or generally is a bit of a a55. Would be a lot of trial and error to get the right group together.

until something goes wrong and/or the neighbours complain to the council jobsworth etc, it's the way of the world sadly
