mk1 gti rebore

Just bought my first Mk1 Gti knowing it needs a re-bore. Taken it to a local engine specialist in Bristol and they have just emailed a provisional quote for £2000 +VAT. Reading some online chat this seems to be a massive bill! Anybody out there who can advise on a best place to take the car in the Bristol area and maybe an idea of a typical cost for the re-bore, pistons ,rings etc.?

Yikes that is a lot of cost, but if they are doing everything and supplying all the parts with labour I can understand how that cost can easily be reached !!

Probably be a lot cheaper if you pick up a running engine and drop it in.
